
YUFE is creating a pioneering model for European universities, dedicated to extending its impact beyond partner institutions and embracing a socially responsible role in each local community.
The YUFE CommUNIty Conference: Connecting community & universities is a vibrant event bringing together university leaders, academics, researchers, students, and community advocates to showcase YUFE’s achievements and explore strategies for strengthening the bond between universities and their surrounding communities.
This two-day conference, held on 14-15 November in Rijeka in partnership with local NGO CeKaDe, offers a platform to exchange ideas, share best practices, and collaborate on solutions to pressing global issues, including social justice, migration, educational access, and racial equity.
Conference Highlights:
- Keynote speeches, including Professor Snježana Prijić-Samaržija, Rector of the University of Rijeka, on the importance of community-engaged universities, Zoran Grozdanov from CeKaDe on combating child poverty, and a special guest lecture by Thomas Farnell.
- Engaging panel discussions examining the benefits and impact of university-community partnerships from both academic and community perspectives.
- Presentations of more than 10 transformative YUFE community engagement projects, including Refugee Project Maastricht, the Cyprus Human Genome Project, Building a Framework for a Sustainable Funeral Industry in a Superdiverse Society, ECOProd.
