You probably already know that self-study is a great way to improve your language skills. But did you know that you can find French, Spanish and English self-study modules and packages in the Virtual Campus?
Here’s how to get started:
- Make sure you are in the OpenYUFE programme ¨(not yet an OpenYUFE student? See below how to sign up) *
- Go to the courses and activities under ‘Language development’ on the Virtual Campus
- Select the format ‘DIY’
- There are modules for English, French and Spanish: these short, themed learning units are available at various levels. Perfect for exploring and experimenting!
- There are also packages for French. Each package equals 12 hours of self-study and counts directly towards the Practice and Experience activities for YUFE Language Star. Complete the package and quizzes, and your results will be registered in the Virtual Campus.
- Register in the VC and fill out the enrolment form before 31 January! Shortly after this deadline, you will receive a link to activate the access to the Sorbonne Nouvelle’s iCampus (to do before end March!). You can enrol in up to 3 modules or packages at a time. Once completed those, you can apply for more. All modules and packages are available until end of June.
Why choose self-study?
- Learn at your own pace, wherever and whenever suits you.
- Materials include grammar, vocabulary, and authentic documents.
- Quizzes help track your progress and build your confidence.
- Perfect for independent learners who want flexibility and autonomy.
Not convinced yet? Let’s have a look at the package at A1/A2 level “Voyager, se déplacer et s’installer dans Paris”. It consists of 7 units:

You will learn to talk about travel and transport, understand and discuss the weather forecast, communicate with hotel staff. Asking for directions and avoid getting lost is also tackled. Finally, you will also learn the ins and outs of searching a place to stay in Paris. In short, your next trip to Paris starts in the VC!
Not a beginner anymore? Explore the B1 package “Grands themes sociétaux” and learn how to discuss and debate today’s societal challenges.
Oh, you are already fluent in French and you are taking courses in French? YUFE got you covered here as well: check out the package at B2/C1 level “Rédiger, prendre des notes et réviser”.
More packages are coming soon. Stay tuned on the Virtual Campus!
