BioYUFE Webinar: Perspectives on Climate Communication

20 March 2026 • 14:00 - 16:30

SCAIRY (Sustainable Climate Action through Interdisciplinary Research in YUFE) is proud to announce its inaugural seminar on Climate and Communication.

This ECR-led event invites participants to explore the multifaceted aspects of communication within the context of the climate crisis. The seminar brings together three interconnected approaches to communication: sociological climate discourse, biological interaction, and the role of researchers. It opens with Ho Won Kim and Tania Hernández González on climate communication as discourse, focusing on tensions between degrowth narratives and corporate strategies, followed by Tihomir Simin’s non-human perspective on communication in biological systems. The session concludes with a roundtable discussion with, among others, award-winning filmmaker Amy Lauren and the deputy director of the Center of Marine Environmental Sciences (Marum), i.e. Prof. Dr. Elda Miramontes García from the University of Bremen. Here, we will reflect on communication as a core, but contested responsibility of climate researchers: essential for public understanding, yet increasingly demanding within polarized debates and academic institutions.
