University-Community Engagement Training

3 November 2025

Discover the benefits and opportunities of engagement training designed specifically for university staff and academics.

This introductory one-hour training, University-Community Engagement for Staff: What’s in it for me? is designed to empower university staff and academics to better understand the transformative potential of University–Community Engagement (UniCommEng) and its critical role in (re)shaping meaningful connections between academia and society. The training offers a guided exploration by situating UniCommEng within its broader conceptual, strategic, and policy landscape.

We will trace its evolution, unpack key principles, and present a compelling case for embedding community engagement into the core academic missions of teaching, research, and institutional development. The session includes a clear classification of UniCommEng dimensions and practices, along with practical insights on how to incorporate these approaches into everyday academic and institutional work.

Whether you are just beginning to explore community engagement or looking to refine your approach, this training will equip you to:

  • Understand the critical role of universities in addressing societal challenges
  • Integrate community engagement into your academic/institutional practice
  • Inspire students through real-world impact
  • Lead or support initiatives that contribute to a more inclusive, socially responsible, and sustainable university

Join us to enhance your expertise and take the (first) step toward becoming a more engaged scholar and institutional change maker.
