From June 30th to July 4th, 30 enthusiastic and talented undergraduate students and 8 teachers from five universities gathered in Madrid for the onsite module of the Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) “National and European Law in the context of migrations: some approaches.”
Following 6 online lectures in April and May, this onsite module was focused on teamwork, practical cases, and soft skill development. Its main goal aimed to foster reflection on the impact and challenges of migration and mobility in various crucial topics: internal border controls, EU immigration and asylum law, trafficking in human beings, social welfare and posted workers, family law, human rights, and legal perspectives on migrants’ pushbacks.
Beyond this legal framework, students also participated in three dedicated workshops to enhance soft skills like design thinking, creativity, teamwork, and oral presentations.
Participants came from 4 YUFE institutions (Universidad Carlos III de Madrid – coordinator, Nicolaus Copernicus University, University of Rijeka, University of Antwerp), alongside one Erasmus partner institution, Vytautas Magnus University.
Following its successful first edition, coordinated last year by NCU, this initiative underscores the YUFE Alliance’s strong commitment to community-engaged challenges, aiming to shape socially responsible citizens and build a more inclusive, cohesive, and sustainable society.
Real-life cases at the core of the activities
Throughout both online (April-May) and onsite modules, students formed international subgroups in order to draft a policy note on a specific topic, comparing national contexts and EU legislations. During the onsite activities, they also had the opportunity to work on various real-life cases prepared by the teaching team and present their conclusions in plenary sessions.
After completing the programme, students could receive 3 ECTS and the Civic Star certificate, allowing them to fully highlight their community-engaged skills and knowledge.
