The third YUFE Community Engagement Network online meeting focused on migration is ahead. This time, we will showcase best practices from YUFE partners in building relationships between universities and NGOs regarding support for people with migrant experience. The meeting on 21 November 9:00 – 10:30 is open to anyone interested in the subject.
The University of Cyprus will present its collaboration with Caritas to implement student volunteering programmes. The UC3M team will present its pilot initiative of putting together all the training, awareness-raising and volunteering programs in favour of refugee citizens under a virtual ‘Refugee Office’. We will specifically focus on the YUFE volunteering programmes and their design and highlight the collaboration with NGOs such as UNHCR, the Red Cross and Save the Children.
This meeting will provide an opportunity for a broad discussion on strengthening the relationships between our organisations further and actively supporting initiatives directed towards refugees.

YUFE Community Engagement Network is designed to facilitate collaborative community action, the sharing of knowledge and good practice, and create opportunities to implement a reverse knowledge transfer model from society to the academic community.
The project’s pilot edition focuses on issues related to forced migration. The initiative is addressed to people from all over Europe employed or volunteering in institutions and organisations working with people with migration experience, representatives of local authorities shaping local policies and taking action in favour of people with migration experience, journalists covering events related to migration, as well as interested students and researchers.
The Network’s inaugural event in May 2024 consisted of two lectures and an online discussion on the theme’ Wartime refugees: legal aspects of protection and cultural background of integration.’ The second event in June 2024 was a workshop, ‘Face to Face with Otherness’, addressing the impact of cultural differences on the adaptation process, psychological and psychosocial first aid and empathy fatigue.
